Kappa Workshop!

The size of a child, a turtle-like beak and shell, and a bowl-shaped indent filled with water on top of the head are the key features used to identify Japan’s capricious, water-dwelling creatures, the kappa.

While the kappa’s antics range from making fart noises to drowning its victims, an encounter with one can be managed by simply bowing deeply to it. ┏○ Kappa are known to strictly abide to etiquette rules, thus they will reciprocate the bow and then spill the water on top of their heads, crippling their powers. 🍵 If the bowl isn’t refilled before it completely dries up, the kappa will perish.

In other words, be respectful and bow upon a meeting with a kappa, but if they’re in their home waters and they’re in a bad mood…

Well.

Things won’t be looking too good for you.

Unless you manage to appease the kappa with cucumbers; kappa are also known to love eating cucumbers over all else.

If that informational blurb hasn’t clued you in already, this week’s workshop will be centered around kappa! The ones we will be folding are harmless (except in the scenario where you get a paper cut, ouch). The workshop will take place this Saturday, August 14, from 3- 5 PM EST through Discord, in our workshop voice channel. (Here’s the link to the server (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧ https://discord.gg/j8uTAZDv4C )

We have three Kappa models lined up: two beginner models designed by Kimura Yoshihisa and Akira Yoshizawa, and one intermediate model created by Fumiaki Shingu. This intermediate model will require scissors for just one cut. ✂️Regular 15+ cm (6+ ”) square paper will suffice for these models. Diagrams for the models will be available in #diagrams text channel shortly before the workshop begins.

Keep your head up (especially if you’re a kappa) and see you this Saturday! (´^ω^)ノ
