Thanks for coming to our Rose Bouquet Classes and supporting us at the election! Here are the updates:

3. Drop-in Workshop
4. Collaborative Event with JCAC
5. Paper Charades *Contest*

—————————————————————————————–

1. Election

Paper Engineer: Wei Zhan
Director of Arts and Design: Carl Ren
Co-Webmaster: Sophia Li

Congratulations to Wei, Carl and Sophia! Carl and Sophia both ran for the Co-Webmaster position and the election ended in a tie between the two, hence the delay in announcing the election result. To accommodate the special circumstance, the execs have voted in favor of electing both candidates to the team.

2. Office Hours

The new office hours for the fall are as follows:

Monday               9:00 – 10:00
Monday              10:10 – 11:10
Tuesday              12:00 – 1:00
Tuesday               3:30 – 4:30
Wednesday          9:00 – 10:00
Thursday            11:00 – 12:00

The changes are made to minimize overlap in office hours with UTAMA. If you wish to meet outside of our office hours, feel free to make arrangement with our execs via email. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

3. Drop-in Workshop

Our first drop-in workshop of the year will take place on Monday, October 19th. Visit us anytime between 9 and 5 at Sidney Smith Lobby for your monthly paper package! We will also have instructions for Halloween related origami. If you would like to teach origami pertaining to our theme at the workshop, please email us your availability for the day =)

The doodle poll will be open for another week, at the end of which we will determine the dates for our drop-in workshops in November. Thanks to all those who have participated!

4. Collaborative Event with JCAC

We are currently in the planning stage for a workshop in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Appreciation Club. The tentative date is Friday, October 23rd. We will be providing you with more information (i.e. theme and location) closer to the event.

5. Paper Charades

This year, F.O.L.D. hopes to bring you more social events on top of the projects that we undertook last year. To start, we have a contest planned for origami enthusiasts at all skill levels – the Paper Charades. It will be a contest in which participants can sign up to be either guessers or folders. Depending on the number of registered contestants, guessers and folders are grouped into teams of two or three (one folder per group) at random on the event day. The folder must first submit to the the judges a list of everything that he/she would like to fold at registration. He/she will be provided with 4.25″ x 4.25″ paper to fold as many random figures drawn from his list as he can in 10 minutes of time, during which the folder is prohibited from communicating with the guessers by any means. In addition, the folder cannot move on to fold the next figure until the guesser either guesses the right answer or gives up on guessing. The goal for the team is to fold as many figures that can be correctly guessed as possible in the time allotted.

We are hoping to do an event as such near the end of every month. Paper Charades will take place on Wednesday, October 28th at 6PM. The location will be posted on our website at the end of this week. The registration is FREE for members and $3.00 for non-members, payable at the event. Winners will be announced at the end of the night and will be presented with a certificate for  claiming prizes at the end-of-year social. To register, please email contest.fold@gmail.com with your name, role (folder or guesser) and membership status (membership I.D. number or non-member) by Tuesday, October 27th. If you have any questions regarding the event, feel free to post them here!

Mid-term season is upon us once again. Best of luck with all your courses!
